2 killed, 28 wounded in Cotabato blast

A loud explosion transpired in front of the Southseas Mall along Magallanes St., Cotabato City around 2pm on December 31, 2018.

Troops of the Joint Task Force Central immediately secured the blast site and conducted road clearing to secure the motorists passing along area.

Witnesses said that one unidentified man left a package near the location of the firecracker vendors prior the explosion.

The explosion resulted to 2 civilians killed and the wounding of 28 others who were immediately rushed to the nearest hospitals.

“Joint investigation AFP and PNP is continuously being conducted to determine the identity of the perpetrator, but we are not discounting the possibility that the DAESH Inspired group was responsible in the said bombing as they suffered casualties during our recent security operations against this terror group in the Liguasan area,” JTF Central Commander Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana said.

“We condemn the barbaric and inhumane bomb attack of this peace spoiler as it is a manifestation of them being desperate to harm civilian people,” he added.

“Security is everybody’s concern and I strongly urge the civilian community to be on high alert at all times and to immediately report any suspicious thing or person to the authorities to prevent the terrorists from sowing terror,”  Major  General  Sobejana concluded.

Western Mindanao Command Chief Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega also expressed his condemnation on the attack.
