Three members of the New People’s Army, 38 members of the Militia ng Bayan, and 162 of their supporters surrendered to the troops of the 102nd Infantry Brigade in the two provinces of Zamboanga this week.
On December 15, 2018, twenty-two members of the Militia ng Bayan and 59 of their supporters surrendered to the 44th Infantry Battalion in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.
On the same day, three NPA members, two members of the Militia, and 72 of their supporters surrendered to the 53rd Infantry Battalion in San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur.
On December 18, 2018, fourteen Militia members and 31 supporters surrendered to the 44IB in Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay.
“Their surrender will be a setback for the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines because of the weakening mass base support,” said Colonel Bagnus Gaerlan, the 102 Infantry Brigade Commander.
“We will facilitate for their enrollment to the Enhance Comprehensive Local Integration Program of the government and we commended the local government units, barangay officials, and other stakeholders who implemented the localized peace talks,” added Colonel Gaerlan.
Major General Roseller Murillo, the commander of the Task Force Zampelan, commended the efforts of the 102nd brigade, 44IB, 53IB, and the stakeholders who facilitated the surrender.
“We encourage other NPA members to return to the folds of law and take advantage of the E-CLIP and spend the yuletide season with their families,” said Major General Murillo.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command, said: “We anticipate that more communist terrorists and their supporters will decide to lay down their arms and avail of the benefits of the E-CLIP.”
