An active member of the New People’s Army and two members of the militia surrendered to the troops of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan in Barangay Rogongon, Iligan City on January 12.
The trio yielded two caliber pistols and ammunition to Lieutenant Colonel Jasper Edward Obar of the 51st Infantry Battalion.
“Based on our initial custodial debriefing, they were pressured by our troops, who were relentless in combating the communist terrorists in the hinterlands of Iligan City,” said Lieutenant Colonel Obar.
Meanwhile, Major General Roseller Murillo, the Joint Task Force Zampelan Commander, commended the efforts of the troops that led to the surrender of the three communist terrorists.
“We encourage more communist terrorists to surrender and to take advantage of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program of the government,” added Major General Murillo.
Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command, said the troops will assist the local government and other agencies in facilitating the reintegration of the former rebels.
