Fourteen members of the Militia ng Bayan and 31 supporters of the communist terrorists yielded to the troops of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan in Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay yesterday (December 18).
Said communist terrorists and supporters yielded to Colonel Bagnus Gaerlan, Jr., the commander of the 102nd Brigade; Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Obena, the commander of the 44th Infantry Battalion Commander; and Police Senior Superintendent Nestor Tiempo of Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office in Barangay Poblacion, Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay at around 10am yesterday.
Major General Roseller Murillo, the JTF ZamPeLan Commander, said the surrender was facilitated by local and barangay officials of Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay, who implemented the local peace talks under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.
“The recent capitulation is a result of the intense information and education campaign on E-CLIP, coupled with the relentless, focused military operations in Pulidan and Quipit, both in Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay,” added Major General Murillo.
The presentation of the surrendered communist terrorists ended at about 12 noon yesterday.
Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command, said: “Complemented by our community support programs, the JTF ZamPeLan will relentlessly pursue the communist terrorists in the joint area of operations to compel them to return to the folds of the law.”
Lieutenant General Dela Vega said the ground troops are continuously conducting combat and intelligence operations against the terrorists in the province.
