601st Brigade holds peace forum in Maguindanao

Local chief executives of Maguindanao attended the peace forum held on Tuesday afternoon (November 20, 2018) at the 601st Brigade Headquarters in Old Provincial Capitol, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao.

The forum was held to discuss the current peace and order updates in Maguindanao, the programs of Joint Task Force Central on preventing and countering violent extremism, the campaign against illegal drugs, election-related disseminations, and other specific issues on peace and order with JTF Central Commander Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana.

Organized by 601st Infantry Brigade, the forum was attended by the local leaders of the municipalities of Maguindanao Province: Datu Odin Sinsuat, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Talitay, Talayan, Guindulungan, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Datu Salibo, Datu Piang, Mamasapano, Rajah Buayan, Sultan Sa Barongis, Datu Unsay, Datu Hoffer, and Ampatuan.

Discussed by the Triad officers during the activity were the situation and military operation updates on JTF Central’s area of operation particularly in the province of Maguindanao and the programs on preventing and countering violent extremism in the area.

Police Superintendent Ganaban Ali, the Deputy Director for Administration of the Maguindanao Police Provincial Office, gave updates on the peace and order in the province while Cielito Llano of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM) apprised the participants of the agency’s campaign against illegal drugs.

Lastly, Atty Udtog M. Tago, Maguindanao Provincial Election Supervisor, provided inputs on the latest dissemination about the upcoming 2019 election.

Some issues were raised pertained to the disqualification of candidates for the coming election, clustering of voting center, status of convicted drug personalities, disposal of garbage of inter-agency, and prevention of bombing attacks in every municipality.

JTF Central Commander, Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana, appealed to the local leaders and other civilian stakeholders present in the forum to have an active role in the peace and order efforts of the military.

“The activity served as a venue for the AFP, other security sectors, local chief executives, and other stakeholders to come up with better strategies and approaches in eradicating terrorism and other criminalities in Central Mindanao,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega, commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
