The 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division of the Philippine Army commemorated its 31st founding anniversary with pride and honor on Wednesday (October 24).
The celebration kicked off with a wreath laying with WestMinCom Commander Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega, on the tomb of the unknown soldier in recognition of his heroism.
The highlight of said celebration is the ceremonial demilitarization of captured, confiscated, surrendered, and recovered firearms in the area of the 6ID which includes the provinces of Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Lanao del Sur, and the cities of Cotabato and Tacurong spearheaded by 6ID/JTF Central Commander Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana.
At least 760 firearms were destroyed and flattened by a road roller during the ceremony witnessed by the local chief executives and other guests of the anniversary celebration.
The celebration continued with the Testimonial Parade and Review at the Kampilan Grandstand with Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana as the guest of honor held.
The Command gave plaque of recognitions to all stakeholders who have been partners of the 6ID in all of its endeavors for peace and development in Central Mindanao which contributed to the accomplishment of its mission.
Former 6ID Commanders present in the event were also given plaques as gesture of gratitude for their contribution to the Command during their stints.
Also recognized in the activity Best Junior Office 1st Lieutenant Charles Joseph P. Ramos, Best Enlisted Personnel Staff Sergeant Ramil G. Binoya, Best CAA Lucas S. Alpilarta , and Best Civilian Employee Mrs. Rosemarie S Bustamante.
Likewise, the 603rd Brigade was adjudged as the Best Brigade, 7th Infantry Battalion as the Best Battalion, and 61st Reconnaissance Company as the Best Company.
Military personnel that exemplified heroic acts and best efforts in the discharge of their duties were awarded with Gold Cross, Silver Cross, Bronze Cross, and Military Merit medals.
The activity was attended by the Philippine Army Commanding General Major General Macairog S. Alberto, WestMinCom Chief LtGen Arnel B. Dela Vega, former 6ID Commanders, the local chief executives of the provinces under the 6ID’s joint area of operation, non-government organization heads, members of the Kampilan Multi-Sector Advisory Board, Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro Natonal Liberation Front (MNLF) leadership, and key stakeholders who contributed in peace and development endeavors of 6ID.
“The Kampilan Division will never be above you, never below you, but always beside you,” MGen Sobejana stressed in his message.
To add colors to the celebration, a Cultural Show and the seach for Binibining Kampilan 2018 was held during the night.
Eight color teams composed of personnel from the organic and operationally controlled units of the Joint Task Force Central competed in the most awaited events.
The White team won in the cultural show and their representative Ms. Sypril Eloisa Bauzon was crowned as the Binibining Kampilan 2018.
Various activities for thanksgiving, community service, intensifying stakeholders’ engagement, and troops recreation were held as part on the month-long celebration that started last September 25.
On its 31st year, the 6ID continues to yield remarkable outcomes through the synchronized efforts of the Command in intelligence and civil-military operations.
“With utmost pride, I commend all Kampilan troopers for their zeal and for all of their feats since day 1,” said LtGen Arnel B. Dela Vega.
