Abu’s hostage freed in Sulu

Amid the all-out offensives against remaining Abu Sayyaf militants, Filipino hostage Jed Quimbo was freed around 4:14pm of December 30, 2018 in Barangay Anuling, Patikul, Sulu.

Quimbo, 28, from Labason, Zamboanga del Norte, was handed over to his brother, Justin Quimbo, and former Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan.

He was then brought to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Busbus, Jolo, Sulu for debriefing and medical check-up afterwhich he was transported to the headquarters of the Western Mindanao Command in Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City.

Rescued KV was presented to WestMinCom Deputy Commander for Admin Brigadier General Cirilo Thomas P. Donato, Jr. before he was formally turned over to his father Labason Mayor Eddie Quimbo and their family.

“Combat and intelligence operations are intensified on the ground to trail and pressure Abu Sayyaf terrorists to surrender and free their captives without harm,” said Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the WestMinCom Commander.

As of this date, the Abu Sayyaf holds three foreigners and two Filipinos in captivity. “With our operational accomplishments, we anticipate that more captives will be freed by the Abu Sayyaf,” added Lieutenant General Dela Vega.
