The military is people-centered in working its objectives towards peace and development, says an official of Western Mindanao Command during an outreach program that benefited thousands of residents in Barangay Kampung Islam, Zamboanga City yesterday, August 24.
“The AFP serves and values the life of every Filipino. Thus, initiatives, like this, are made by the military to empower communities and to contribute to national development efforts,” said Lt. Col. Crizaldo Fernandez, WestMinCom’s assistant chief of Unified Command Staff for Personnel. He likewise attributed the success of the military’s campaign to the trust and support of the community.
WestMinCom tapped Ticket 1, a travel agency in this city, to conduct said outreach program that provided free medical services, haircut, and supplementary feeding to thousands of residents in Barangay Kampung Islam yesterday.
Said program is also in line with Westmincom’s 13th anniversary and Barangay Kampung Islam’s 14th anniversary.
“We want to give back and help Filipinos in ways that do not involve arms. We are here to reach out and help the local government and the sectors reach their goal of alleviating poverty and armed conflicts in Mindanao,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Western Mindanao Command.
“We hope this trivial way will move and empower poor communities to work with us in our security and development campaign,” he added.
