The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao led by Governor Mujiv Hataman launched an emergency rapid response team known as the ARMM-HEART in 2013. ARMM-HEART stands for Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao-Humanitarian Emergency Action and Response Team. ARMM-HEART provides coordinated actions by all regional line agencies to limit the impact of disasters in the region.
Since 2013, ARMM-HEART have catered a lot of disaster responses including rescue and relief operations to displaced citizens in areas affected by calamities and conflicts.
While ARMM-HEART covers only the five ARMM provinces namely; Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, it also extends relief and rehabilitation services to neighbouring provinces. The team extended assistance to more than 100,000 villagers driven away from their homes during the Zamboanga siege in September, 2013 and the thousands of residents in the Visayas region devastated by Typhoon Yolanda, among others.
In the recent skirmishes between the government forces and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Maguindanao and conflagration incident in Jolo, Sulu, ARMM-HEART in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, led relief operations including the distribution of food packs, water containers, and hygiene kits.
ARMM-HEART also facilitated various medical and dental missions in the provinces under the ARMM region.
On August 29, 2018 ARMM-HEART and the different line agencies and LGUs convened in the Joint Task Force Sulu covered court for the ARMM PEOPLE’s Day Celebration.
ARMM-HEART have and will always touch lives through humanitarian ways.
