Basilan-based Abu killed in recent encounter

Headquarters, Western Mindanao Command, Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City- November 23, 2018.

A Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf Group member identified as a.k.a Abu Nibras was killed during an encounter with the troops of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 11 under the Joint Task Force Zamboanga at Sitio Logon, Barangay Limaong of this city around 5:30 this morning.

Troops of the MBLT11 responded to the reports received from residents of the area about the presence of unidentified number of armed individuals with unfamiliar faces.

Sensing the presence of government troops, the group fired their weapons. Exchange of fires lasted for ten (10) minutes.

Seized along with the dead body of Abu Nibras were one M16 rifle and several improvised explosive devices and other components.

Troops coordinated with the PNP SOCO for the documentation while they continue to scour the area. Continuous coordination with the PNP and local officials is also being conducted.

Abu Nibras was a trusted follower of Basilan-based ASG sub leader Abdullah Indanan.

“I commend the troops of the MBLT11 under Joint Task Force Zamboanga led by Colonel Leonel Nicolas for being vigilant and valiant,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega, commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
