BIFF’s rifles, explosive component seized after clash in Maguindanao

Soldiers seized four high-powered firearms and an explosive component of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters after a ten-minute gun fight in Maguindanao at dawn today (January 15).

Troops of the 40th Infantry Battalion under the Joint Task Force Central seized three M14 rifles, an Armalite, and a component of Anti-Personnel Mines from BIFF members engaged by patrolling troops in Barangay Inaladan, Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao at 4:35am today.

The Joint Task Force Central Commander, Major General Cirilito Sobejana, said soldiers patrolled the area to ensure the success of the plebiscite.

“Prior to the security patrol, a civilian told authorities that an armed group carried Anti-Personnel Mines in Barangay Inaladan. With unwavering courage and determination, our soldiers fought the bandits and thwarted the hostile plan of the terrorist group,” he added.

“Indeed, the support and cooperation of the people in Central Mindanao contributed to the better peace and order in our area of operations.”

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command, commended the JTF Central troops for the series of accomplishments, including thwarting the bomb ploys of terrorist groups, in Central Mindanao.

“Let us continue to work hard in protecting the people and in defeating extremist groups that wreak havoc and spoil the internal security in Central Mindanao,” added Lieutenant General Dela Vega.
