First Suluano delegates to Palaro ARMMAA sent off by Sulu troops

In partnership with the Department of Education Sulu and the provincial local government of Sulu, the Joint Task Force Sulu sent on Thursday (January 24) the 366 Suluano contingents to Basilan for the forthcoming Palarong Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Athletic Association.

The sendoff was held at DepEd Compound in Barangay San Rimundo, Jolo, Sulu at around 4pm yesterday.

Present during the send-off were Brigadier General Divino Rey Pabayo, Jr., the commander of the Joint Task Force Sulu and the 11th Infantry Division, Philippine Army; Mohammad Fadzarul Abdula, the executive director of Sulu Action Coordinating Center; and representatives of the DepEd and the Philippine National Police-Jolo.

The delegates were transported to Mahubo port in Patikul, Sulu after the send-off.

A Navy vessel ferried the delegates from Jolo, Sulu to Isabela City, Basilan yesterday.

“This is the first time that the Sulu contingents for the ARMMAA were given a send-off to encourage them to do their best during the competition,” said Brigadier General Pabayo, Jr.

The 366 student athletes hailed from Talipao, Patikul, Indanan, Jolo and other municipalities in Sulu.

They will compete for various categories, including badminton, basketball, chess, Sepak Takraw, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, swimming, football, baseball, and softball.

“Engaging young Suluanons in friendly sport competitions will accord them an opportunity to reach out and harness their skills. The Western Mindanao Command will continue to support any initiatives of the local government and the stakeholders that will benefit the young generation of leaders in Sulu,” said Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
