Fleet-Marine officers, enlisted personnel, reservists, and civilian employees participated in the traditional New Year’s Call to Rear Admiral Rene Medina, the commander of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao, at Tangan Gym in Naval Station Romulo Espaldon on January 16, 2019.
Captain Richard Gonzaga, the deputy commander for Fleet-Operations; Colonel Armel Tolato, the deputy commander for Marine Operations; and Lieutenant Commander Julius Tuttoh, the acting Chief of Staff of the NFWM, rendered a courtesy call to the NFWM Commander.
Rear Admiral Medina, who expressed his gratitude to the Fleet-Marine team for the past years’ accomplishments, said: “We have performed well in our respective jobs and I am very proud of the NFWM’s accomplishments. The past year has been a tough and challenging one; our adversaries tried to break in the barrier we set for peace, specifically in the maritime domain that we’ve been diligently maintaining which tested our courage, strength, and dedication to service. Despite all of those challenges, I strongly believe that we have overcome all trials with pride and flying colors. Indeed, we all surpassed the year with astounding endeavors which made the hearts of our stakeholders feel that the NFWM is in being.”
“Let us continue to work hard, help each other, and do our mandated tasks passionately and excellently. May we continue to embrace with courage and optimism the challenges that lie ahead of us. Let us all work hand in hand as we enter a new phase of our lives as defenders of the Western Mindanao frontier,” added Rear Admiral Medina.
The event also served as a reaffirmation of commitment of each Philippine Navy personnel to the flag and the country.
The New Year’s Call is an annual gathering of all units under a Command. It is also one of the cherished traditions in the military organization.
