The Western Mindanao Command turned over to Indonesian authorities the freed captive of Abu Sayyaf militants in Zamboanga City today (January 17).
Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the WestMinCom Commander, turned over Samsul Saguni to Colonel Mohammad Reza Suud and Colonel Sigit Himawan of the Indonesian Defense Attaché at the WestMinCom headquarters in Camp Navarro at 8am today.
Saguni and the Indonesian Defense Attaché left for Manila at 12 noon today.
Colonels Suud and Himawan thanked the WestMinCom for its relentless operations against the Abu Sayyaf that led to the release of Saguni and the rest of the Abu Sayyaf’s captives.
Lieutenant General Dela Vega said military troops will continue to pressure terrorists and work with their counterparts to rescue remaining captives kept in the hinterlands of Sulu.
On January 15, 2019, soldiers of the 41st Infantry Battalion, 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army and the 11th Infantry Division, Philippine Army rescued Saguni in Sulu.
Saguni and Usman Yunos were seized by Abu Sayyaf militants in waters off Semporna, Sabah on September 11, 2018.
