Gov’t forces dismantle BIFF’s gun factory in Maguindanao

Armed with a search warrant, government forces seized several arms from a gun factory supplying the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters in Maguindanao today, February 15.

Backed by heavily armed soldiers, combined elements of the Special Action Force and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao served the search warrant on Abusama Abpun, 60, in Barangay Poblacion, Buluan at 6am today.

Government troops seized three M4 Carbine rifles, an M1 Carbine rifle, six 9mm Tomgram guns, a 12-gauge shotgun, a tripod for Caliber .50 heavy machinegun, and several unassembled firearms.

“We followed the legal procedures in serving the warrant,” said Senior Superintendent James Gulmatico, the regional head of the CIDG.

He said Abpun manufactures and supplies illegal firearms to criminal elements, including the BIFF.

Gulmatico said they have footages of Abpun repairing a gun of a BIFF member.

Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc, the 33rd Infantry Battalion Commanding Officer, said: “We have removed another logistics support source of the BIFF and other lawless elements. We will defeat them by cutting off the sources of their weapons,” he said.

Major General Cirilito Sobejana, the Joint Task Force Central Commander, commended the troops and vowed to support the local government in keeping the peace in the area.

“We will intensify our intelligence buildup and complement police operations to disarm terrorists and debase their external support,” said Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
