While acting on an information received, troops of the 44th Infantry Battalion encountered six members of a lawless group in Barangay Tampalan, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay at 5:30am today, October 29.
“We received a report of the presence of armed individuals in the area so we immediately deployed our troops to scour the area,” said Lt. Col. Don Templonuevo, 44th Infantry Battalion commander.
The 15-minute firefight resulted in zero casualty on the government side while on the enemy side it is yet to be determined.
“The bloodstains in the area ascertain that there are casualties on the enemy side and I urge them to surrender for them to be given proper medical treatment,” said Col. Leonel Nicolas, commander of the 102nd Infantry Brigade.
Meanwhile, JTF ZamPeLan commander, Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan said, “Let us conquer the challenges ahead of us and step up the momentum in sustaining our gains for our common aspiration”.
Recovered from the encounter site were one M14 and one M16 rifles; 1 rifle grenade; 2 cellular phones; 1 motorized single-engine pump boat; assorted magazines and ammunitions; and personal belongings of the enemy.
