Local residents of Tuburan, Lanao del Sur handed over 19 loose firearms to soldiers of 55th Infantry Battalion at 10am on October 9.
The local government unit of Tuburan Municipality, headed by Mayor Khaledyassin Papandayan, played a great role in the surrender of said firearms, said Lt. Col. Ian Noel Ignes, 55th Infantry Battalion Commander.
The surrendered were one M14, two M1 Garand rifles, one shotgun, eleven handguns, and five grenade launchers.
“Today’s accomplishments were attributed to the peace-loving local chief executives, constituents, and stakeholders of Lanao del Sur,” said Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, 103rd Infantry Brigade Acting Commander. Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan, Joint Task Force Commander, said,
“Your Tabak Division, in collaboration with the LGUs and other stakeholders, remains steadfast in its commitment to attain just and lasting peace in our area of operation through our campaign against loose firearms.”
“Disarming private and warring groups is one way of ending armed struggles that derail security and growth.
We see this capitulation as a welcoming development in our campaign to neutralize undocumented firearms,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Western Mindanao Command.
