Through the effort of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, the local government of Isulan, Sultan Kudarat turned over 29 loose firearms and 5 explosives to the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade at the municipal gymnasium earlier today, May 7, 2019.
Isulan Mayor Marites Pallasigue with Association of Barangay Captains President Jacosalem Galmak handed over the firearms to 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander Colonel Efren P. Baluyot.
The firearms and explosives that were surrendered by the locals of the 17 barangays include: two M79 grenade launchers, sixteen 12-gauge shotguns, one Ingram, five caliber .38 revolvers, one forty lite modified pistol, two caliber .45 pistols, one modified 7.62mm rifle, one rocket propelled grenade, one hand grenade, one rifle grenade and three 40mm grenades.
Lieutenant Colonel Alvin Iyog, Commanding Officer of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, said that the turnover of firearms was part of their tireless effort in the continuing campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms and the strict implementation of election gun ban.
“We will continuously collaborate with the local government units and officials in our area of responsibility to strengthen our efforts against loose firearms especially during the election period,” Colonel Baluyot said.
Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana, Commander of 6th Infantry Division, commended the efforts of the troops and the municipal government of Isulan for the successful and peaceful handing over of firearms.
He also thanked the stakeholders for the continued trust and support to the government troops that greatly contribute to the peace and development of the province.
“As we intensify security operations in preparation for the forthcoming 2019 Midterm Elections, the Western Mindanao Command continuously conduct military operations against all threat groups while also supporting law enforcement operations addressing lawlessness, illegal drugs, and proliferation of loose firearms in our area of operations,” said Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the WestMinCom commander.
“My congratulations to the troops of the Joint Task Force Central led by Major General Cirilito Sobejana for this recent accomplishment,” added LtGen Dela Vega.
