A known sniper of the Dawlah Islamiyah/Maute Group surrendered to the troops of Joint Task Force Ranao in Butig, Lanao del Sur at 5pm yesterday (October 10, 2018).
The surrender was successfully facilitated by the combined efforts of the 49th Infantry Battalion, under the Joint Task Force Ranao, MILF-ADHOC Joint Action Group (AHJAG), and in coordination with the local officials of Butig.
Nape Baltao also yielded his 7.62 Sniper Rifle with scope to 49IB commander Lieutenant Colonel Edgar Villanueva Commander.
In his message, Major General Roseller Murillo, commander of the Joint Task Force Zampelan lauded the troops for being able to convince the Maute remnants to lay down their arms as evident in the consecutive surrenders within the week.
“The concerted efforts of the troops backed by the local government units and other government agencies greatly contributed to the positive developments on our campaign against terrorism,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega, commander of the Western Mindanao Command. “Truly with our unified efforts, we can achieve milestones and breakthroughs.”
