Military, sectors tackle violent extremism with SK officials in Oroquieta City

Military and local officials tackled violent extremism in a forum with Sangguniang Kabataan officials in Oroquieta City on December 27, 2018.

Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Severo, the commanding officer of the 10th Infantry Battalion, discussed the success in the campaign of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan against the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front in a forum on anti-illegal drugs advocacy, violent extremism, and opportunities offered under federalism.

Lieutenant Colonel Severo talked about the history of the communist terrorists in Mindanao and presented “Madugong Sengkuwenta” that showed the atrocities perpetrated by the group in the past 50 years.

The JTF ZamPeLan troops also led the attendees in the candle lighting ceremony to commemorate the lives of the victims of the terrorist group in Mindanao.

Also discussed during the forum were the significance and the advantage of the anti-illegal drug advocacy and federalism.

Chairmen, officers, and members of the Sangguniang Kabataan from the municipalities of Aloran, Tudela, Calamba, Lopez Jaena, Tanggub, and Ozamiz in Misamis Occidental attended the said forum.

Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command, said initiatives are underway to promote peace and security in Mindanao by building awareness and encouraging multi-sector participation.

The forum was held at the Provincial Cultural and Farmers Training Center in Oroqueita City at 2pm on December 27.
