A full (battalion-sized) military honors was tendered to the outgoing commander of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao during his exit visit to the Command earlier today (March 06).
Newly-promoted Vice Admiral Rene Villena Medina is set to relinquish his post as the commander of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao in a turnover ceremony tomorrow. He will be replaced by Rear Admiral Erick A. Kagaoan, the former Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) of the Philippine Navy.
VAdm Medina will then assume as the 32nd commander of the Western Command positioned in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
In his exit visit to the Western Mindanao Command, Vice Admiral Medina was welcomed by the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian employees of the Command.
He was then received by WestMinCom Deputy Commander for Operations, Brigadier General Generoso Ponio, and the Command Staff at the Laong-Laan Hall.
Vice Admiral Medina hails from Siraway, Zamboanga del Norte and is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy “Sinagtala” Class of 1986.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Western Mindanao Command for the continued support to the Naval Forces Western Mindanao that led to the enormous accomplishments of our unit,” said Vice Admiral Medina.
The largest naval operating force of the Philippine Navy, the NFWM defends the Western Mindanao frontier.
“On behalf of the men and women of the WestMinCom, congratulations Vice Admiral Rene Medina on your well-deserved promotion and your new designation,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega, the WestMinCom Commander.
Vice Admiral Medina is known for his strong sense of duty and versatility that convey his exemplary leadership.
