The Local Government of Rajah Buayan handed over two high-powered firearms to the troops of the 40th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Tabungao, Radjah Buayan, Maguindanao around 1:30pm yesterday (January 9, 2019).
Rajah Buayan Mayor Zamzamin I. Ampatuan handed over 1 US Carbine and 1 US Caliber .30 Garand rifle to Lieutenant Colonel Edgar Catu, Commanding Officer of the 40IB. Said loose firearms were surrendered by the local folks of the said municipality.
Gracing the event were 601st Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Diosdado Carreon, Honorable Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu, personnel from the PNP, and the teachers and students of Tabungao Elementary School.
“The activity was part of the continuing campaign against loose firearms of the 601st Infantry Brigade,” said Brigadier General Diosdado Carreon, commander of the 601Bde.
“We will sustain this campaign and work hand-in-hand in cooperation with the local government units and other stakeholders in order to achieve peace and development in the area,” said Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana, Commander of the Joint Task Force Central.
Additionally, during the said activity, two class rooms in Tabungao Elementary School were formally turned over to the school authorities. There was also a distribution of slippers and school kits to the students of the said school. A medical mission was also conducted. This was a joint project of the local government unit and the 40th Infantry Battalion.
Major General Sobejana expressed his utmost appreciation to Governor Mangudadatu for facilitating the realization of the construction of the school building and for his undying support to the troops.
“This is a good development on our campaign against loose firearms. With this, we will continuously strengthen our relationship with the LGUs and other stakeholders for the benefit of the people of Mindanao,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega, commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
