Sayyaf slain, 4 more wounded in Sulu

An Abu Sayyaf militant died and four more were wounded in a clash between military forces and the group of Mundi Sawadjaan in Sulu today, May 27.

The five-minute gunfire ensued as government troops conducted a focused operation in Barangay Sandah, Patikul at 3:30pm today.

Operating troops believe that more Abu Sayyaf militants were wounded while military troops did not incur any casualty.

Military forces further recovered from the armed engagement back packs of retreating Abu Sayyaf members.

Augmenting troops blocked possible withdrawal routes of the enemies and conducted pursuit on the evading Abu Sayyaf militants.

Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, Western Mindanao Command chief, said, “Military troops escalate their deliberate and focused operations against Abu Sayyaf militants, days after the spate of offensives in Sulu.”

“We are gaining a foothold as we sustain our tactical offensives on the ground. This is evinced by the number of militants slain in our successive armed engagements against the enemies in Sulu,” he added.
