A member of the Abu Sayyaf Group under sub-leader Idang Susukan yielded to military troops while tactical offensives continue in Sulu on March 30.
Misal Abdulwahid, 33, surrendered with his M16 rifle to Colonel Antonio Nafarete, commander of 1101st Infantry Brigade, at 2pm last Saturday.
Brigadier General Divino Rey Pabayo, Jr., Joint Task Force Sulu commander, said the surrender came amid operations being launched by combat troops to pursue militants behind atrocities in Sulu.
Troops brought Abdulwahid to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Hospital in Bus-bus, Jolo for medical check-up.
He will undergo a custodial debriefing to be facilitated by the JTF Sulu.
Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, Western Mindanao Command chief, said, “Combat troops continue their deliberate and intense offensives against Abu Sayyaf militants, all aimed at neutralizing terrorists and rescuing remaining captives.”
“We are doing all measures to defeat the Abu Sayyaf and, with the support of the people of Sulu, we are hopeful that more militants will return to the fold of the law and will join our cause to win the peace that every Suluanon deserves,” he added.
