Six Abu Sayyaf Group members submitted themselves to the troops of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion (2SFBn) led by Lieutenant Colonel Jessie R. Montoya in Talipao, Sulu at 8am on Monday (November 19).
Annuar Sumlahani Dalawis a.k.a Urban a resident of Sitio Silal, Barangay Lianutan, Luuk, Sulu; Arsi Kalam Akili, resident of Barangay Danag, Patikul, Sulu; Nassal Asaral a.k.a Nassal, Alvarez Sadjan a.k.a Tundok, and Aysal Ajaral a.k.a Taki, all residents of Barangay Kuppong, Indanan, Sulu; and Medzmar Mursin a.k.a Choy, resident of Barangay Panabuan, Indanan Sulu, voluntarily surrendered through the efforts of the different Community Support Program (CSP) Teams of the 2SFBn.
Dalawis was a member of the group under ASG sub-leader Sibih Pisih while Akili was with senior ASG leader Radullan Sahiron.
Asaral, Sadjan, and Ajaral, were under ASG sub-leader Apo Mike and Mursin was a follower of ASG sub-leader Raden Abu.
Said surrenderors turned over six (6) high-powered firearms including one (1) M16A1 rifle and five (5) US M1 Garand rifles.
Custodial debriefing and documentation of subject surrenderors were undertaken at the Headquarters of the 2nd SF Battalion on Sitio Bayug, Barangay Samak, Talipao, Sulu.
“I commend the troops of the 2nd SF Battalion under the Joint Task Force Sulu led by Brigadier General Divino Rey Pabayo for this recent accomplishment. Carry on with your good work,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega of the Western Mindanao Command.
“We hope that more bandits will decide to surrender instead of risking their lives and engaging themselves in deadly encounters,” he added.
