Military troops engaged 24 Maute remnants under Abu Dar in a fierce gun battle in Lanao del Sur today (January 24).
Heavy skirmishes between soldiers and terrorists ensued as offensives were launched by the 55th Infantry Battalion and the 82nd Infantry Battalion to locate an enemy camp in Sultan Dumalondong at 8:10am today.
Three soldiers incurred wounds in the ensuing gunfight.
Responding troops promptly extricated casualties from the encounter site for medical treatment, according to Colonel Romeo Brawner, the 103rd Infantry Brigade Commander.
The engaged troops were provided with artillery and close air support.
“We are calling on the public not to panic and not to evacuate because we have everything under control,” he added.
Major General Roseller Murillo, the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan Commander, said, “This is an offshoot of our relentless campaign against the Maute remnants and the Abu Dar group.”
“Ground troops are attempting to penetrate the enemy lair and bring down Abu Dar. As we speak, soldiers and Maute terrorists are locked in a heavy gunfight in the battle area. Nevertheless, we will ensure that our wounded comrades will be given immediate medical attention and assistance,” said Lieutenant General Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
“We will employ more pressure and sustain our offensives to neutralize remaining terrorists in Lanao del Sur. While we are making headway, the JTF ZamPeLan will ensure that we will accomplish more from our counter-terrorism campaign,” added Lieutenant General Dela Vega.
