While conducting intensified military operation, troops of the 41st Infantry Battalion of the Joint Task Force Sulu encounter more or less fifty (50) Abu Sayyaf Group members under Almujer Yadah in Barangay Liang, Patikul, Sulu at 4:10pm on Friday (November 16).
Firefight ensued after which the enemies scampered to different direction bringing along their casualties with them.
The exchange of fires resulted to undetermined casualties on the enemy side as evident on the blood stains scattered in the encounter site.
Casualties on the government side include 5 soldiers killed in action and 23 wounded including one officer and 22 enlisted personnel.
Battle casualties were rushed to the Kuta Heneral Bautista Station Hospital for immediate medical attention and proper disposition of the KIAs.
Early this morning, 15 of the 23 wounded soldiers were airlifted to Zamboanga City for further medical attention.
“We are deeply saddened by the demise of our 5 gallant soldiers,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega of the Western Mindanao Command.
“Rest assured we will provide all sorts of assistance to the bereaved families and to our wounded soldiers,” he added.
Pursuit operations are currently being conducted to neutralize the fleeing bandits.
