Troops foil Dawlah Islamiyah’s bomb plot in Maguindanao

Military troops recovered an explosive emplaced by members of the Torayfie Group under the Dawlah Islamiyah following a five-minute clash in Maguindanao this morning (January 9).

Soldiers of the 40th Infantry Battalion under the Joint Task Force Central engaged two Dawlah Islamiyah fighters under Salahudin Hassan, thwarting the group’s bomb plot as the military recovered three 81mm unexploded ordnances with triggering devices in Sitio Landing Fish, Barangay Darampua, Sultan Sa Barongis, Maguindanao at around 9:30am today.

No casualty was reported on the government, while undetermined on the enemy side.

“The troops acted upon information tipped by a civilian that Hassan’s group was planning to transport anti-personnel mines from Sultan Sa Barongis to sow terror in urban areas,” said Major General Cirilito Sobejana, the commander of the Joint Task Force Central.

“After the bombing in Cotabato City, I instructed the troops to be on heightened alert to prevent more bombing attacks in Central Mindanao,” he added.

Elements of 32nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal and the K9 team immediately responded and disrupted the explosive.

“Ground troops keep guard in order to preempt any ploys that may be employed by the Dawlah Islamiyah group to retaliate against the military. While offensives are being sustained in Central Mindanao, we urge the people to remain vigilant and to apprise authorities of any suspicious activities in the area,” said Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
