Military troops under Western Mindanao Command paid tribute to a fallen soldier in this city today, February 15.
Late Corporal Nemesis Salviejo, of 6th Special Forces Battalion, was slain in a gun battle with 30 Abu Sayyaf militants yesterday in Barangay Igasan, Patikul, Sulu.
“Corporal Salviejo fought hard and paid the ultimate sacrifice for his countrymen. His courage and gallantry will spur our will to fight and defeat the enemy,” said Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the WestMinCom Commander.
Soldiers sent the remains of Corporal Salviejo to Villamor Air Base in Pasay City via a military aircraft at around 2:30pm today.
The 20-minute gunfight ensued as Joint Task Force Sulu troops launched their offensives against the militants.
Sergeant Allan Bambino Caday, Sergeant Wilfredo Flores, and Private First Class Ronan Dave Mapa incurred shrapnel wounds during the gunfight.
“Ground troops hunt down the militants and penetrate enemy lair, as we speak,” added Lieutenant General Dela Vega.
