Troops seize lawless group’s arms after clash in Lanao

Military troops seized several firearms after a fierce clash with a lawless group in Lanao del Norte on August 17.

“Our troops were able to outmaneuver the armed group, albeit they were in a well-fortified position,” said Lt. Col. Rolando Orengo, 5th Mechanized Battalion Commander.

Soldiers from 5th Mech Bn seized from said group one M14 rifle, one M16 rifle, two Garand rifles, one rifle grenade, magazines, and ammunition.

They ferociously engaged the armed elements in Barangay Karkum, Sapad at 9:50am on Saturday.

No government forces were hurt while traces of bloodstains were found on the enemies’ withdrawal route.

Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan, commander of Joint Task Force ZamPeLan, urged the people to cooperate and report to proper authorities the presence of armed groups in their communities.

“Tactical offensives and intelligence buildup continue to hound terrorist and lawless groups that spoil peace and development in our operational area,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Western Mindanao Command.

“Local officials and communities are also empowered to take part in our security campaign,” he added.
