Two Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group remnants surrender in Lanao del Sur

Two Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group members laid down their arms to the troops of Joint Task Force Ranao in Lumbaca-Unayan, Lanao del Sur around 3pm yesterday (October 16, 2018).

Mubarak Dimasangkay Bassit and Alinok Muntik, who belonged to the group that beleaguered Barangay Pantar detachment during Marawi siege in September, 2017, yielded to Lieutenant Colonel Ian Noel Ignes, commanding officer of the 55th Infantry Battalion, under the Joint Task Force Ranao bringing along with them one caliber 50 and one Garand rifle.

Major General Roseller Murillo, commander of the 1st Infantry Division said that the continuous surrender of the DI-MG remnants entails weakening of their organizational leadership and capabilities. He also encouraged others to lay down their arms and live peacefully.

For this month alone, a total of ten (10) DI-Maute Group members surrendered to JTF Ranao.

“It is but more fulfilling to end terrorism without a single bloodshed,” said WestMinCom Chief Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega.

“We hope that more bandits will decide to surrender instead of engaging in armed confrontations.”
