Two Dawlah Islamiyah members surrender to troops in Cotabato City

Two members of the Dawlah Islamiyah group surrendered to the military’s Joint Task Force Kutawato under Colonel Wilbur Mamawag in Cotabato City on December 23, 2018.

Surrendered were certain Nasrudin Tuya and Sharwina Mohamad, who are both members of the DI-Cotabato Chapter.

The rebels surrendered through the convergence efforts of the 603rd Infantry Brigade; the 5th Special Forces Battalion, PNP; and the Local Government Unit of Cotabato City.

The duo underwent a custodial debriefing that was facilitated by the troops.

“Love and longing for our family convinced us to surrender,” said the former rebels.

Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana, the commander of the Joint Task Force Central, commended the troops and the various stakeholders for their roles in the surrender of the DI members.

He added that the DI and other threat groups in Central Mindanao were diminishing with their organizational leadership and capabilities.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command, said the military continues to encourage other rebels to return to the folds of the law while offensives are continuously being conducted in the joint area of operations to pressure rebel fighters to lay down their arms, too.
