The WestMinCom personnel formed to “man the rails” at the gate 1 of the Command to render final salute to the fallen marine soldier upon his arrival on the morning of December 14.
Sergeant Randy B. Cariaso was a member of the 62nd Marine Company who paid the ultimate sacrifice while battling with members of the Abu Sayyaf Group in a bloody encounter at wee hours of December 13 in Minis Island, Patikul, Sulu.
Said encounter also resulted to the killing of four (4) enemies (three (3) identified; one (1) still for verification) and the wounding of three marine soldiers namely: Sergeant Rulen Mar M. Claudio, Sergeant Paul Leo E. Casaul, and Corporal Jesus A. Cabrera who are currently recuperating at Camp Navarro General Hospital.
Funeral honors was also rendered to the late Sgt. Cariaso at the Naval Forces Western Mindanao yesterday.
“Sgt. Cariaso fought his fight victoriously and we will continue his quest to bring back peace in the province of Sulu and the entire Mindanao region,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega, commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
