Troops of the Western Mindanao Command joined in the simultaneous flag raising early this morning (June 12, 2019) to commemorate the 121st Philippine Independence Day anchored with the theme: “Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan”.
The flag raising held at the headquarters of the Command was attended by the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian employees headed by Colonel Leonardo I. Peña, the Chief of Unified Command Staff.
Meanwhile, the Western Mindanao Command also participated in the commemoration of the Philippine Independence in Zamboanga City spearheaded by the city government held at Rizal Park 8am today.
The WestMinCom contingents led by Brigadier General Generoso Ponio, the Deputy Commander for Operations, also played a part in the wreath laying activity to honor the heroism of those who fought for the country’s freedom.
“As we commemorate the Philippine Independence, the Western Mindanao Command, through all of its Joint Task Forces, adheres to its mandate of fighting against terrorism and violent extremism for the people of Western and Central Mindanao to savor true freedom,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega, commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
“Let us also remember the sacrifices of all those who fought for the freedom of our country from the hands of the subjugators and our fallen soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the welfare of the many,” LtGen Dela Vega added.
